Born in 1969 Alexander McQueen is one of the most celebrated designers to be born in the UK. Fashion design was always McQueen's passion and upon leaving school he took up an apprenticeship on Savile Row, working for three different tailors including Gieves and Hawkes. His fashion education grew when he was appointed head designer at French fashion house Givenchy a position he held for 5 years before leaving to concentrate on his own fashion label. By 2000 his own label had developed a strong reputation, so much so that the Italian fashion giant Gucci took a controlling share in Alexander McQueen, however insisting that he stayed on as creative director. Much of McQueens work features his now trademark skull logo. In recent years the label launched the collection of Alexander McQueen Sunglasses which received critical acclaim and key pieces always sell out long before summer arrives. Sadly McQueen took his own life in 2010, however his label still lives on in his memory.
