Ray Bans

Ray-Bans have a history spanning well over 70 years. They were first developed by Bausch & Lomb in the 1930’s for the United States Army Air Corps, who wanted effective eye protection from the sun that was also good looking. Designed to filter out infrared and ultraviolet rays, the lightweight prototypes, known as Anti-Glare, were made of gold-plated metal with green lenses. Widely adopted by the American Air Force and army personnel during World War II, the Ray Ban Aviator became famous when General Douglas MacArthur was photographed wearing them when he landed on the beach in the Philippines. Since then Ray Bans have become synonymous with style and practicality.

Rayban sunglasses are famous the world over. Patented by manufacturers Bosch & Lomb in 1937, they were first popular with American pilots and soldiers during World War II. Since then Ray Ban Aviator sunglasses have become a style icon for people from all walks of life.

In 1952, Ray Ban also created another classic style, the Wayfarer, which featured plastic rather than metal frames. These have proved to be the sunglasses of choice for movie stars, TV stars, and musicians – most famously worn by The Blues Brothers as part of their trademark look.
