The Wonderful World of Marc Jacobs

The Wonderful World of Marc Jacobs Main

Mention Marc Jacobs and people everywhere think, “fashion design at its most creative and exciting.” Like his world-famous clothing lines, both Marc Jacob sunglasses and the whole line-up of Marc by Marc Jacobs glasses and sunglasses are all stunners that make a modern statement with unique colour combinations. Now with his own fashion house and an established reputation for creating exhilarating and unconventional designs, Marc Jacobs has had an interesting life.

Marc Jacobs was born April 9, 1963, and his father died only 7 years later. Jacobs has said that the difficulty created by this, and the constant remarriages of his mother (whom he’s called “troubled”) and family moves made for a difficult life start. Things changed radically for the youth when he went to live with his paternal grandmother in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, while still a teen. He felt a new sense of freedom, and used it to his advantage. She encouraged the Jacobs’s plans to enter the design world and didn’t restrict his nightclubbing or movement into a gay lifestyle, further boosting his confidence.

After attending the High School of Art and Design, Jacobs went on to New York’s Parsons School of Design. There, upon graduation in 1984, he gained instant notoriety with a triple-whammy win of three distinctive awards: the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year Award. Soon afterwards, while working stock at Charivari boutique, Jacobs created and marketed his first line of hand-knit sweaters, then went on to design his first entire clothing collection, under the “Sketchbook” label, for Reuben Thomas, Inc.

After setting another record in 1987, he won the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent, at age 24. Jacobs’s rocket shot to the top of the design world accelerated as he became women’s wear design director for Perry Ellis, then in 1992 captured the distinguished CFDA prize for Womenswear Designer of the Year, an effort he duplicated five years later. His audacious “grunge” collection wowed department store purchasers and critics, but not his boss. As 1993 folded, Perry Ellis did with it, so Jacobs established his own Marc Jacobs label with long-time business associate Robert Duffy.

The team was a success, pushing the barriers of women’s wear into areas fashion critics and the public called “exciting,” “lovely,” fresh and “understated cool.” Jacobs’s line soon expanded into a full collection of menswear in 1994. His stunning designs soon earned him the role as Louis Vuitton’s creative director, where he established the company’s first ready-to-war collection. He went on to work with many engaging pop artists, such as rapper Kanye West, artist Richard Prince and Takashi Murakami to put out clothing, including T-shirts, with wild prints and eye-catching fashion elements. Jacobs’s handbags suddenly became the hottest bags to be seen carrying, and still catch attention for their sleek looks.

The year 2001 saw a secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, what the designer saw as a nod to younger kids’ cool mixing of colours and designs, and that, too was a hit. Jacobs’s personal life has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, with dips into alcoholism and rehab, several lawsuits for plagiarizing designs, and other headline-snatching stuff. But, he always comes out on top, returning to popularity rarely seen in the design world and so recognized around the globe. Multiple stores dot the globe, with more opening every day, lately many throughout Asia.

His body splash fragrances line, out since 2006, is still sought-after. Jacobs’s two lines cover all manner of clothing, but now market (mainly under the Marc by Marc Jacobs label) many distinctive accessories, jewellery, shoes and boots, swimwear, computer accessories and the now-classic Fossil watch collection. The latter must be seen to appreciate the designer’s flair for the unusual.

The designer’s eyewear collections, including Marc by Marc Jacob glasses, Marc Jacob sunglasses and Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses, are available in a wide array of styles at quality sunglasses stores such as Blaze. All models represent the brand’s understated yet extremely chic style. Marc Jacobs sunglasses mix retro charm with unique colour combinations, bold shapes and textures with pastel tones and pop hues for a strikingly modern look. The name Marc Jacobs is synonymous with making a statement, being bold and subtle at once, and going your own way; appearing in the designer’s accessories brands you as the same.

Marc Jacobs’s sunglasses use quality propionate and acetate frames for lasting durability, and come in myriad styles, from aviator and aviator-inspired to round and oval oversized. There are numerous cool wayfarer variations with striking prints, brightly hued temple pieces and other elements to make your style pop. Quality 100% ultraviolet-screening lenses protect your good vision, and many versions have gradient lenses, with more tinting on top for sun blocking and less on the bottom, for easy of skimming your laptop or car dash gauges.

Whatever you select, Marc Jacob sunglasses or Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses, you’ll be standing out as a buyer of top quality and stylish sunglasses. What’s more, you’re going to feel a lot cooler, because – you guessed it – you’ll look a lot cooler wearing  them.
