John Lennon glasses were named so after round sunglasses were the legendary musician's eyewear style of choice, particularly in the latter days of the Beatles.

Popular in the 1960s, tea shades are back.  Round sunglasses were once only the choice of hippies and style icons, and today they have been modernised and adorned by movie, music and fashion icons alike.

Rockers Mick Jagger, Liam Gallagher and Ozzy Osbourne all wore variations of round sunglasses.

Tea shades were also featured on Woody Harrelson in the Natural Born Killers, Jean Reno in Leon and in the first Matrix movie.  The character of Lara Croft also wears round sunglasses in the Tomb Raider computer game.

More recently, actress and fashionista Mary-Kate Olsen and pop sensation Lady Gaga have been seen wearing several variations of John Lennon glasses.

Round sunglasses can be worn with just about any kind of outfit, and are both chic and edgy. If you're looking for an alternative to the many oversized styles around today, then tea shades could be the answer.

They come in all sorts of forms, as well as the classic perfect circle of the 1960s. Today, some have a flatter line along the top of the lenses or have large plastic frames while others have a slight squareness rather than being completely round. Though of course, the classic metal framed, round style does still exist.

The term "tea shades" is now not as widely used as round sunglasses or John Lennon Glasses and was appropriately used to describe glasses worn to hide the effects of marijuana, bloodshot eyes or the effects of opiates.
